Atomic Locks in Lightning: The present, the future, and an alternate reality
Sunday December 8, 2024 10:50am - 11:10am EAT
Payments along routes in the Lightning Network are required to be atomic in order to preserve their trustless property. We’ll recap how the HTLC construct achieves this currently and its shortcomings. This will be contrasted with the likely future of atomic payments via PTLCs with an overview of their progress to specification. We’ll review signature adaptors and compare the MuSig vs. single signature adaptor variants for the implementation of PTLCs. As an interesting, but related aside, we’ll explore non-Schnorr-based constructs for Lightning Network payments that still provide atomicity and similar anonymity and privacy to PTLCs.

Unlocking Privacy with Silent Payments in Bitcoin
Sunday December 8, 2024 11:10am - 11:25am EAT
This presentation will dive into the concept of Silent Payments, a promising new approach to enhancing privacy within the Bitcoin network. Silent Payments are designed to simplify anonymous transactions by allowing users to generate unique payment addresses without revealing their identity or transaction history to third parties. This makes it possible to conduct payments in a more private, efficient, and user-friendly manner.

We’ll explore how Silent Payments differ from traditional Bitcoin addresses and current privacy solutions like PayJoins or CoinJoins, focusing on the cryptographic underpinnings and how they make tracing transactions extremely difficult. By examining real-world use cases, we'll show how this innovation could be a game-changer for privacy-conscious users and the wider cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Key Takeaways:
- Understanding Silent Payments: Attendees will learn what Silent Payments are and how they can significantly enhance privacy on the Bitcoin network.
- Privacy Without Sacrifice: Gain insights into how Silent Payments improve transaction privacy without compromising scalability or user experience.
- Practical Use Cases: Learn about practical applications for Silent Payments in various scenarios, from everyday transactions to privacy-critical situations.

By the end of this session, participants will appreciate how Silent Payments can contribute to a more private and secure financial future, expanding the potential of Bitcoin for a broader audience.
